Coaching
‘The first initiatives in existential coaching practice began at the start of the twenty-first century, led by established existential psychotherapists. Emmy van Deurzen, Freddie Strasser, Monica Hanaway and Ernesto Spinelli made the first strides in Europe’
The Wiley World Handbook of Existential Therapy’ (2019:225)
I was fortunate to be one of a group of existentialists who developed existential coaching in Europe. We took our existential psychotherapy experience to create a new model of coaching.
In my coaching I use the same existential-phenomenological approach I use in all my work.
I work mainly with leaders and executives, throughout the world, who are interested, and brave enough, to embrace a different coaching approach which is deeper than the more organisational, systemic, and psychometric led ways of working, whilst at the same time still covers key business challenges. I was part of a team which created a Master’s course in Creative Leadership for Regents University, London.
This existential approach uses a creative dialogue which is based in the values and beliefs of the individual and the organisation, working with any discrepancies which may be present and identifying any beliefs or behaviours which have become stuck or sedimented.
I wrote the first MA in Existential Coaching for Middlesex University, which runs at The New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling in London. I continue to be involved in the development of existential coaching worldwide and offer coaching supervision to experienced coaches and those in training. I work with individuals and groups e.g. leadership teams.
